Who's the Daddy?
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. | Romans 8:15 (NLT)
Romans 8 v 15 AMP
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!”
Romans 8:15 GNT
For the Spirit that God has given you does not make you slaves and cause you to be afraid; instead, the Spirit makes you God's children, and by the Spirit's power we cry out to God, “Father! my Father!”
Romans 8:15 GNT
Fear – it's a tough one. We fear all kinds of things, some of which are rational and keep us safe but often it's the irrational fear that's the issue. Fear can stop us moving forward, it can blind us from truth, it can make us believe the lies of the enemy that we are abandoned, that we are lost and forgotten, that we can't do anything right, that we are unloved.
But God's word says in 2 Tim 1:7 he has not given us a spirit of fear but a spirit of power, love and sound mind and again here in Romans 8 verse 15 we have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear...
In fact it goes one step further - it tells us that God chose us to be part of his family. He adopted us and called us his children . Wow .
Get your head around the whole adoption meaning!
When a family adopts, they specify things they're looking for to try best match a child or children with their family. They make choices just as God chose you and His choice was made despite your messes, mistakes, irrational fears, misguided decisions etc
He looked at you and saw someone he loved, cherished, delighted in, saw purpose and saw as his child.
(Take a moment to drink in the truth in these verses: Zeph 3 v 17, Psa 37 v 23, 1 Peter 5 v 7, Jer 31 v 3, Phil 2 v 12-13, etc).
So when it gets tough, when you feel fearful, or even when you mess up, again, just come to Abba - father and remember you are his, his precious child.
